Beach Pix | Kilcunda Beach | 2019-01-01
These Christmas & New Years holidays we decided to visit some beaches that aren’t in the Bayside area, but still relatively closer to home… We had looked at a couple in our area a couple of years ago, but they were more muddy rather than sandy, so were a little skeptical of what we might find…
Nonetheless, I decided to look at a few Google satellite maps to see what was around. We decided to visit a couple of beaches during the evenings where my wife wasn’t working, and the weather wasn’t too bad.
New Years Day while many were probably still recovering, we didn’t really do much so decided to spend the day down at a beach just outside of Kilcunda. While in town we stopped to meet up (travelled in separate cars), parked in a carpark on the beach side which is elevated quite high up – got my two younger daughters out of the car for a brief walk and photo op.
My sister-in-law, Jody, had been out here earlier in the week looking for property and discovered this little beach hidden off the road which has an inlet. Very calm water for the inlet, and over the smaller sand dunes we could access the surf beach. There were rock pools in the surf teaming with life, and massive sand dunes on the west side of the inlet which were very fun to slide down reaching speeds of over 35kph at an angle of more than 45 degrees – this is what boogie boards are made for!!
I managed to shoot water coming towards the camera, some nest eggs in the sand, and a lonely shell on the surf sand.
